See it, Believe it, Go get it.

Some Monday motivation about taking risks….see it, believe it, and go get it.

East Coast Startups on the Rise…

Nothing better than watching disruptive companies change the world as we know it, except for “helping” disruptive companies change the world as we know it.  Good to see more and more articles like this being written, and more and more companies (and VC’s) making it happen.

Why Not Today? Why Not Now?

I can go anywhere. I can do anything.

This morning at the gym I saw an older man on the lateral chest machine, squeezing his old wrinkly pecs together to sustain any remaining definition he might have left. The man looked a bit like Lou Holtz, probably about 75 years old. What was impressive though was what’s underneath those pecs – a lot of heart. Wearing a simple grey T-shirt similar to those overworn “College” shirts slapstick humored freshman used to wear, the words on the shirt read: ” I can go anywhere. I can do anything”.

Being the motivation junkie that I am, and extra optimistic because “old lady bath and body works” was NOT at the gym today which allowed me to take in Oxygen, I asked him, ” Sir, love the shirt. You mind if I take a picture?” His answer was interesting as he replied, “Ah thanks but I don’t need people to know where I’m going”. Either he wears this shirt every day and that’s his coined line, or he said something very thought provoking. Do we need others to know about our accomplishments as we pursue them? In the world of self-promotion and branding and nonstop tweets, posts, and updates, is it necessary to tell others everything? I’m not saying which way I lean here, and from a professional standpoint it’s certainly the Meconomy out there, but are we doing things to fulfill our own passions or to impress others?

In the end, I snuck the pic anyway (shown here) but the bottom line: You can go anywhere. You can do anything. Regardless of who’s watching.
